Remark on notation

• Uncertainty about notation regarding data race prediction algorithms

  • Vector clock of current event, or before current event?
  • FastTrack: simply write the vector clock, or include “Th(i)”?
  • etc.

• There are two kinds of notation:

  1. Formalisms: notation is strict!
  2. Expressing intermidate steps of algorithms: notation is less strict.

• Bottom line: when writing steps of algorithms, use a notation that works for you, but make sure the reader knows what you mean!

• We will improve our own notations for the next time we give this course.
